Timetables: streaming, room allocation and preliminary lectures
Many of your papers will have a timetable of classes into which you are streamed. The composite information of timetable, streaming and rooms is displayed in your personal timetable on PIMS on the University website.
Timetables
View the University Timetable
The University Timetable has details of class times and locations of:
- lectures
- tutorials
- laboratories and practicals
- seminars
- workshops
- film screenings
- terms tests
This information should be used to help you plan your course of study for the year. Take care to avoid class clashes.
Subjects and Papers will show up to date timetable information.
Check this section regularly before the start of semester to ensure your programme of study is still valid and contains no clashes.
Streaming and room allocation
Streaming is where students are put into individual classes. This information forms the basis of what you will see on PIMS.
Streaming of classes is arranged before the start of each teaching period.
First and second semesters
To be included on lists of streamed classes you must have either:
- completed Course Approval or
- have arranged payment of your fees
If you wish to change your second semester course you must do so before the end of second semester Course Approval so your correct timetable will appear on PIMS.
Summer School
Streaming for Summer School papers is run before Course Confirmation day so any changes made on that day will not be displayed on PIMS.
Room allocation
Rooms are allocated after streaming is completed. Room information is included in your personal timetable.
If an allocated room has to be changed after room information is displayed on PIMS you will be notified through Blackboard, email, departmental noticeboards or in class.
Information about room locations
- Dunedin Campus Map
- University Information Centre staff can also assist you.
Why your timetable information may not appear on PIMS
- you have not completed Course Approval before streaming was run and have made no arrangement about payment of fees
- your course of study includes a clash
- you have made a change to your course of study after streaming was run
If your streaming information does not appear on PIMS, consult the department administering the relevant paper so you can be signed up for the required class.
Adjusting your timetable under exceptional circumstances
It may be possible for staff to adjust your timetable before streaming is run if you have personal reasons which may affect the times or rooms for your classes. You will need to:
- email timetables@otago.ac.nz at least one week before Course Approval.
- provide appropriate supporting evidence.
Preliminary lectures
Second semester
There are no preliminary lectures for second semester papers. Contact the relevant departments for information.
